The power of now, mooooving and WOW! March 24, 2011

‘To be fully alive, fully human, and completely awake is to be continually thrown out of the nest.’ Pema Chodron

Well yes. Certainly. And of the nesting birds….

I am a night owl…..I resist sleep as something inside me (when I feel my groove), comes alive at night. Mornings too I enjoy, but not to be out and about, PLEASE. It’s MY time. No animals in the room after chow time, just me….usually with computer and hands on my computer keys, stroking them, conjuring up magic if I can, or turning the wheels of industry as I am wont to do.

But tonight, I find myself coming alive to C J Chenier, to the late Beau Jocque, to my old Bonnie Raitt tunes and a bit of Joni, Dave, Asleep at the Wheel and okay, that one Akon song that I love….and I realize how I MUST manifest more dancing in my world. I have one of the prettiest ballrooms in Georgia with acoustics that are perfect and space to swirl, cha cha, swing, zydeco and feel the flow of the music, the step, a partner and yourself.

So….always a mission, a vision, an idea to conceive, make real. And tonight….I’ll put out into the ether waves, that there WILL be dancing at Carl House while I am caretaker and owner.

I remember years ago when creating Carl House, standing on planks of a not yet build ballroom thinking, ‘goodness, like a theatre, oooh, the love and joy that will happen under this roof when it is built’.

And so it has been and so it will be!

Everything starts with a spark, an idea….whooooa….it’s going to be a unforgettable year. Mark my words…please do!

Beau Jocque….vibing, dancing….over the moon joy and Mr. (revered Sir), CJ Chenier…just entirely cool and soooo fun to dance to ya’all!! Now stand up and dance….do it….just do!!

The power of now, mooooving and WOW!…the energy will send you where you’re needing to go. TRUST me on that one!!

I have a vision… February 9, 2011

It’s time to expand our thinking. What IS possible. If we only believed, or knew our own power, every hint of worry would dissolve like a puddle in the sun.

Remind me I said that.

I have a vision for my land behind Carl House.

Bloom Where You Are Planted! February 1, 2011

The team at Carl House have been having a ball meeting brides, brides, brides over the past few weekends!! We appeared the last two weekends at the GA Bridal Show Events….(great turnout) in both Gwinnett and Athens and last weekend at the Bridal Extravaganza! My take on the Bridal Extravaganza held at Peachtree 200 on the video clip below. WHAT a show it was!

(I MUST stop making faces every time a camera shoots my mug….)!!

Carl House Table: Bloom Where You Are Planted!

Carl House participated in the table top competition which was a blast…our theme: ‘Bloom Where You Are Planted’. We frankly weren’t fully aware of what the entire event was meant to be until LAST week. I incubated an idea at top speed, (fun to have this diversion)….shopped at 5 stores in 3 hours and had the needed accessories for my ‘Abundance’ theme! Our Carl House Floral Designer, Kimberly Coates added in her creative florals to complete my vision. (I particularly like our gold headed goddess, Abunduntia)! Our partner linen company, CoverUps, contributed their gorgeous aqua linens and the table was bedecked with jewels, plates which read ‘believe’ and quotes around abundance and prosperity at each place setting! Oh and two glass heads which were my favorite, sprouting grass atop their noggins. Yes, fun, fun, fun to create!

Below….our theme expounded upon!

Bloom Where You Are Planted!

Our table is a microcosm of rich abundance, the potential in our lives. ‘Bloom Where You are Planted’ is attributed to all of the following sources: Afghan Proverb, Nancy Reader Compion’s Aunt Grace, Mary Engelbreit, a song, and an “old garden saying”. To us, it is a phrase hinting at life as a celebration and choice, our opportunity to choose, create, imagine and consider the possibilities in our lives! The colors in our tabletop hint at the divine, the vast sea and the sky, live flowers blooming from the woman’s head a metaphor for all things living, beautiful and possible.

Our message is the reminder to move forward ‘as if’, whatever we imagine can become true and to believe in ourselves. Our teal, silver and gold are reminiscent of the magic of the Incas, the brilliance of the heavens and the promise of all things abundant if we’ll allow for them. The shimmering aqua globes represent a mini world, a resplendent globe and the bejeweled candles symbolize the importance of passion in our lives. Colorful fabric, wine, and flowers accented with feathers are a reminder to celebrate, enjoy, to fly toward our desires! Finally, the sculptured glass heads…a call for expansion of our minds into our hearts… believing with each breath that what we put out to the world comes back to us, or better!

Our message is about the power of this moment and then the next, fulfilled and fulfilling! Carpe diem all the way!

And wow, the designers were out at this show. A beautiful array of table decorations which frankly, blew us away! How delightful to have been in such incredible company.

Our Goddess of Abundance...Abunduntia!!

Very good company indeed!

And more….

And more….

And glorious more….

And did I say more!!

No, we didn’t win, but as with the Oscars, we were just delighted to be a part of ‘the show’.
Thank you one and all for inspiring us all!! Ooooh, the possibilities!
But ooooh, oooooh, next year, NEXT year….we’re brewing some ideas as I type, yes…..AS I type!

Create this…moment. January 27, 2011

I’m breaking away from my zip zip duties for a moment to bear witness to my own ‘BB Webb journey’.

Picasso

I thought of something queer…odd. Of course every moment we experience is NEW, but I’ve been noticing how certain actions seem especially new. (I’ve not taken LSD, I’m merely noticing what has gone perhaps unnoticed or certainly not consciously recognized before).

Now, nothing earth shattering here….just moments seen a bit from the left instead of the right.

I noted that the other night I’d never made a turn in a certain way in my kitchen with my tea preparation just so, with my dogs surrounding me with an unusual glee usually reserved for when I’m preparing food or issuing out a ‘dog treat’. I merely noticed.

I noticed a new way I spoke with a team member and how my body felt in my clothes. I recognized a brief moment where and how I held a defense mechanism within myself back. I was merely noticing.

I noticed a definite fondness flood over me when considering certain possibilities of new work, new connections in my work. I just happened to notice it. Answers to challenging situations, creative ‘ahas’ encouraging me forward.

They are everywhere, these new things. I like noticing them. Moments.

I find that it’s usually around creating something fresh and new or meeting someone who might hold a mirror to myself in a good way or open a thought to a new possibility to a challenge. I’m exhilerated in those moments.

And I am meeting new people…folks to help this vision I am growing for developing the land behind my beautiful Carl House, people who augment the thoughts I have for my writing, speaking, the media work I am chomping at the bit to pursue as I am less in the day to day runnings of Carl House.

Kandinski

And this week, I realized, (as we continue to have a handful of reactive moments in my business as we do some more growth filled moving about), I had misunderstood one of the alternative marketing opportunities with a bridal show we are participating in this weekend, Bridal Extravaganza. I realized on Tuesday that we were lined up to design a table top for 6-8 people…any theme, colors, flatwear, dishes, flowers, design trend….After the shock and working to adjust my already full schedule, (as I was eager to participate), an idea blossomed for a theme in moments and in short order, a trip to 5 stores in 3 hours, I had what I wanted and more.

And I aim for us to win, though that’s hardly the point. I was merely excited to get to create in a new way, different from my current day to day. I can’t divulge our theme or photos yet, but I hope you’ll stay tuned. I hear the competition is tough this year with MANY more participants than last year. Despite so few hours of rest this week, as I continue as ‘BB a go-go’….I am enthralled to have my fingers in so many tasty pies.

I considered…it’s the act of being creative that keeps my fire lit. It’s energizing, real, full, expansive and fun….working to execute the visions which keep knocking inside my head.

Just thinking….

Oh That Junction Where Creativity Meets Vision! January 6, 2011

During my several moons of travail over the last several years….I have for about a year and a half envisioned a new website for my Carl House business. Sadly, I had not only NOT found the right person or business to help unfold the vision inside my head, I wasted money attempting to FIND that right person or business.

It’s all a part of the journey, so they say. (And who IS ‘they’)???

And what women DOESN’T like a new look? We women don’t ‘dye’ our hair, that suggests covering something unwanted…..we instead ‘color’ it….as a fashion statement. Who said anything about GRAY???

I have found though, in Junction Creative, a team of savvy business folks who GET what customer service, creativity and communication is all about. Led by savvy business woman Julie Cropp Gareleck, her team of able bodied men and women have exceeded my expectations in so many ways.

And, this new iteration of the Carl House site, is only the beginning!!

Waiting for the birth of a new website is like waiting for (I’m guessing here), a child to be born. But damn, this incubation (well over a year) seems like foreeever! There are sooo many details that MUST be perfect, representative of who we are as a company, as a team, highlighting the RIGHT details to be effective to our readers and folks interested in our venue!

This wait I’ll say is worth it as (for those who know me), I don’t like doing much of ANYTHING half way. With over 125 photos, easy navigation and descriptions of what we offer that we HOPE will tease and entice you and many others to come visit, we’re giddy with girlish excitement!

And our Carl House blog, (Carl House Unveiled), has an outfit to match. And if you’re not COMPLETELY enthralled, our new corporate site will be making a reappearance again soon, soon!

Life does have its glorious moments, doesn’t it. Oooh, the varied things which bring us pleasure!!

The truth is, I, WE (my team and me), LOVE to put on a party! In fact, it makes us JUMP for joy! Stay tuned. Next week is our due date….and that stork seems to be as excited as we are …..

We're all jumping for joy about our new look! Photo by John Campbell Photography!

Thanks Savvy Web Team, we are most grateful for your hard and smart work!! Thank you one and all!

Hills, Railroads, New Rooms and Such October 23, 2010

Such a title….but it rings true. The sound of the railroad lulls me in the office at Carl House as the calls come in, as I navigate personalities, work to keep everyone and myself on target, in line, clear of my vision and moving forward with support and clarity. There are hills, there are indeed valleys, and lately, new rooms and such!

I sat last evening at 8:30pm on the third floor of my Carl House, deeply satisfied with the sound of a party below,

(a commitment ceremony)!! We’re all entitled to live as we choose says I.

…the 8th redecorated or vastly reorganized and cleaned room in either my home or Carl House, a glass of Rodney Strong Knotty Vine Red Zinfandel, (a fav of mine) and some brie and bleu cheese with figs, apple slices and grapes prepared by my favorite of chefs, Chef Derek. Debbie, my Operations gal and I reminisced the busy week which I entered with a keen focus and crystal clear intent….I had plans….I could feel my team gasp as they drew close against their respective walls as I issued THIS weeks mission.

Having recently had a resignation and shifting among the ranks, (always the right decision)….I could feel the energies shift and I was ready to move forward….MOVE FORWARD indeed!

When I am clear, I am a whippet, or tasmanian devil, tsunami I’ve been called, though endeavor or have learned, (ummmm, am learning) to be less harsh as my intensity is inborn, it is me, tempered only through living in a world which I must negotiate at every turn, while not splashing frigid water on my flame. I must guard carefully myself from the doom and gloom sayers, the influences which don’t bolster me in positive ways. Similarly, I am picking up new ways of being which work to manage my energies, my direction, this mission I was somehow born to unfold!

I rearranged our offices on Monday and on short notice had a room renovated to accomodate our new photo booth. Anticipating a call from the 18 wheeler driver of the company with whom I bought this expensive but valuable addition to my offerings, we were prepared to assemble a ready team to lift it from the large truck. Finding Miguel, the driver with the two gold front teeth, (a lovely chap…from the Bronx)!…with Debbie’s help we assembled in short order our team of hearty and muscled men to move the thing. With Miguel outside my house, stirring the passing cars atop his 18 wheeler…we had no time to waste.

‘I’m here with a 450 pound photo booth….who’s moving it’.

Traffic was intense so quickly….on the phone with the local police to help direct traffic until our movers appeared! Roger, my beloved handyman, along with our newer team member Mike, scurried to finish the renovations of the room to receive this MONSTER of a welcomed ‘profit center’ to my business. Roger suggested pulling my 1984 Ford Truck behind the 18 wheeler to lower it first there, then closer to our back steps to haul this heavy pup inside.

One, two, three, things were flying….flying…..

Then on Tuesday, after giving an 8am talk to the local Chamber of Commerce at my place, ‘Building a Business the Thrives Beyond YOU’….my lessons learned in a talk now….humor and angst both!!!…..the team and I prepped for our Bridal Event with about 20 vendors showcasing their wares….me in my element as hostess, welcoming our 100 or so guests, giving out prizes, assuring each detail was tended and person welcomed.

A late night misunderstanding between and a client and staff member, (normal daily sorting), soon remedied, minimal drama and OOOOOh the food, Chef Derek outdid himself with the FOOD! (My favorite a chicken, lavender something infused sauce with brussel sprouts that made my eyes shut while chewing). I adore culinary treats, the creativity, the textures, tastes, the colors, the way it is presented. I grew up with a father who taught me the love of fine dining and it’s worth every penny when I do decide to indulge. And fortunately, I have a chef who treats me to luscious items on a regular basis to satisfy this passion, for it IS a passion and one I will NOT deny nor sacrifice!

Wednesday, a travesty in trying to find the right workman to assemble a floral cooler, one lame worker after the next, unbelievable quotes and me having to say good-bye to more than one ‘offer’. My favorite ill suited gent the one who asked if I’d give him money for gas and cigarettes! Debbie my operations person stood nearby waiting to hear my response, getting ready to flee if sparks flew. Oooooh, they did, they did and she flew….so did he.

We had some theft last week within the ranks and security measures have been increased. We suspect some new arrivals into our fold. After much hallabaloo, adding soon security cameras, better processes to assure there is no theft….the bottles of missing wine mysteriously reappeared. There is magic happening within my business. I feel it as surely as I know my forward growth and positive solutions are imminent.

I had a good talk, heart to heart really, with a key advisor, someone very close to me and she (that higher part of me) had some good thoughts…things I was gleaning as true. I’m on it. I’m here, I’m on track and ready for all good and the expansions that are afoot. Long in the waiting maybe, but maybe not.

Life is good.

And yesterday, the shed which can’t seem to stay organized….it and my dear Operations person, Debbie, were subject to a loving hurricane of BB organization and new processes.

Stand back’, I alerted, the dust will fly and, you will be so HAPPY it did.

We all were. And the energy within is changing, the right people are appearing and I’m clear, on point!

Of key importance, I AM clear….on MANY things in my world just now.

And that….ooooh, that is good, VERY good.

Love being the singular intent with all that THAT means to me.
